HMPV Virus cases.

Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) is a respiratory virus that typically causes mild symptoms similar to the common cold, such as cough, fever, and nasal congestion. However, it can lead to more severe respiratory illnesses, particularly in young children, older adults, and individuals with weakened immune systems.

As of January 6, 2025, India has reported a few cases of HMPV:

Karnataka: Two cases were detected in Bengaluru. An eight-month-old child is currently receiving treatment, while a three-month-old has been discharged after recovery.

Gujarat: A two-month-old boy in Ahmedabad tested positive for HMPV and is under medical care.

Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR)

Health authorities, including the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), are closely monitoring the situation. The Union Health Ministry has stated that there is no significant surge in cases and that the situation does not currently warrant alarm.

Given the limited number of cases and the absence of widespread transmission, there is no immediate cause for concern regarding the HMPV Virus in India. Nonetheless, it’s prudent to remain vigilant and practice standard preventive measures to reduce the risk of respiratory infections:

Hand Hygiene: Regularly wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
